I’m kind of in love with Valentine’s Day, yes, even the whole commercialized-Hallmark-holiday version.

I love the flowers, the candy, the cards, the sappy love story movies, the conversation hearts and the romance, well, maybe just the idea of romance. My husband has yet to discover his hidden talent for romantic gestures. I refuse to give up on the idea of being swept off my feet. Most of all, I love making other people in my life feel loved. The best way I know to do that is to spoil them with baked goodies.

These cherry heart cutout chocolate cupcakes are no exception.

Cherry Heart Cutout Cupcakes Recipe

Each cupcake is imprinted with love. A cutout in the center leaves space to fill each cupcake with sweet cherry pie filling. Or you could pick your own favorite filling like strawberries, chocolate fudge, conversation heart candies … pretty much anything that will fit.

So how do you make these? Well, it’s pretty simple.

1.  Bake and completely cool your favorite cake mix cupcakes.

2.  Use a Wilton heart shaped fondant cutter to press into the center of the cupcake.

3. Sometimes the cutter will pull the cake cake right out for you.

4. If the cake doesn’t come out, just use a fork to gently pull the heart out from the edge.

5. Dust the cupcake with powdered sugar.

6. Spoon a dollop of cherry pie filling into the center.

That’s it!

  1. I just ADORE these cat! I pinned them. And I love that you used Cherries…and the extra cupcake liner. That was a super cute idea!

    • I don’t know why I do it but I always double the liners when I bake cupcakes.

      • Karla Fitzpatrick says:

Cupcakes are so cute I love the look of the double liner.Do u just double the liners to get that affect.

  2. Those are CUTE! I’d have to fill mine with whipped cream or something, but my kids will LOVE them! Thanks!

  3. I love, love, love these!!! Too perfect for Valentines Day! Pinned! :)

  4. Those are adorable and much easier to make than they look! I can’t wait to make them for my family.

  5. These look so pretty. Neat how you cut it open with the cutter. I have cutters like these, will have to put them to good use. I like how you can get so creative with these by using different cutters.

  6. These look absolutely DIVINE! Cat, you did an amazing job, wish I could eat one, I don’t think mine will turn out half as pretty :)

  7. These are stunning! You could earn a small fortune selling batches of those to local men to take home to their wives this Valentines Day!

  8. I love these! So pretty!

  9. These look delicious! I can’t wait to make them :)

  10. That is really clever – and so easy! Love it!

  11. I’m a hopeless romantic, so yes, I do love Valentine’s Day. And honestly I can’t say I make every day V-Day, but I can say that my husband and I do try to make at least one romantic day a week for each other. I’ll make these for him soon! :)

  12. These are SO cute- I can see myself royally messing them up, but if they worked out they’d be worth it!

  13. I love this! What a great (and simple!!!) idea!
