I usually do this post on Monday but our weekend actually took place on Sunday and Monday so Tuesday is actually Monday. Did you follow that? Yeah, me neither, but our lives are a little weird like that.
So on Saturday I did something completely out of character for me … I got my hair cut. I’m a pretty low maintenance kinda girl so I only bother getting my hair trimmed like once a year. My ends were starting to get bit frazzled and I’m sure they were split so I figured it was time. I only took off about 2 inches but it was just enough for now. I’m really not in the mood for drastic changes.
Sunday was actually the first Father’s Day my husband has had off from work in YEARS. He’s always mandated to work the local Juneteenth celebration. Well not this year! We stayed in bed late, I made him a hearty breakfast, we got some yard work done and grilled steaks.
I tried desperately to keep my mind off the fact that for the first time in my life I was celebrating a Father’s Day with no father. As hard as I tried, NOTHING about that day felt normal to me. I wanted nothing more than to bake my dad his annual chocolate cake and just hang out and chat about nothing. All that nothing meant more to me than a lot of somethings, it was everything.
I don’t have a lot of pictures of my dad but this one (which he’d totally give me the stink eye for sharing) pretty much sums him up. Even in his old(er) age he was as goofy as ever, always making me laugh.
Then today, Monday (our Sunday), we went out boat shopping with my mom. I was actually pretty surprised, the pricing on a pontoon boat isn’t all that crazy, it’s the boat slip rental and winter storage where they get you. But if she decides to buy, I’m sure we’ll make some great family memories with it.
And for the first time since Emma was born we actually had a day and night without the girls. They went off to bake cookies and do manicures with grandma while we took our son to the water park and I didn’t get burned. Woohoo! My skin comes in two colors: pasty pale white and boiled lobster red.
We also went out to dinner (like actually sat in a restaurant) with no issues. That was refreshing. And I even enjoyed a few sips of an Orange Dream martini. It looked better than it tasted, alcohol just isn’t my thing.
We finished off this awesome day with a few games at the bowling alley and some alone time watching the moon glisten on the lake.
How was your weekend?
