We’ve had a pretty sad month around here and I’m finally excited to share some happy news! Today, my big girl rode her bike with no training wheels! Squeeeee!!! This is huge y’all. Kaydee is turning six this summer and I figured it was time to give her a little push to ditch the training wheels and ride a big girl bike. What really shocked me was that it only took 3 days to teach her. We practiced for about half an hour each day and today she just took off.
But it probably had something to do with the incentive. She found an 18″ Monster High Bicycle at Meijer that she fell in love with and talked her dad into a deal. When she was able to ride with no training wheels, she’d get the bike to celebrate. That was all the motivation she needed.
Since the weather got so nice (60 – 70 degrees all weekend) we decided to get started on outdoor projects. Hubs got to “feed” the lawn while Miss Emma helped me hang a bird seed bell.
And then we did something really, really stupid. For a few years now I’ve been wanting to add a screen door to our back door. I’ve tried the “as seen on tv” magnetic screen but it was total junk and forking over the cash to have someone install it for us would have been a good idea, but apparently we enjoy DIY torture. So went out, picked out a screen door and the guy helping us even told us this was an easy 10 minute project. Ha! We can turn the simplest of tasks into your worst nightmare. And that’s pretty much what happened. The details are long and boring but it comes down to this. The door fit, we put on the hinges, then the door didn’t fit. We first tried to saw the door frame to make it fit, Jon got wood chips hurled at his face, we bought a plane tool, destroyed the door frame shaving it down and finally conceded by taking the screen door back off and returned it. End of story. We’re now hiring someone to fix our colossal mistake. Lesson probably not learned.
What did you do this weekend?
