Today is my due date and Labor Day!

No not labor day as in the holiday, but labor day as in…I AM IN LABOR. lol

It’s kinda funny how things work out. Today is my official due date for baby Emmaleigh and she is coming exactly the way I wanted. I actually went to bed around 4am after spending all night pulling winners for the Bloggy Baby Shower and an hour later woke up cold, sore, and wet. Strangely, my water broke while I was asleep. I got out of bed and said, “Jon, the bed is wet…I’m pretty sure my water broke”…his responses…”are you sure you didn’t pee on yourself?”…It’s a long story, but that was actually a valid question. But no, it was definitely the amniotic fluid which continues to leak every time I move.

So here it is almost 10am and we’re getting things ready…but I of course had to update everyone. I’m not in active labor yet, not even any really strong contractions yet, more of just a constant backache. If contractions don’t pick up I’ll give my doctor a ring around lunch time or so but for now…I need breakfast, I need to re-install the car seat base and spend some time with my daughter.

Wish me luck! I’ll update this post before I head to the hospital. Oh and for the Baby Shower winners, I will email all of you either shortly or when I get back from the hospital.

UPDATE: 11 am

Well, still no strong contractions, just baby girl moving around quite a bit. I sure hope they start up soon or I’ll end up right where I didn’t want to be, hooked up to monitors getting Pitocin…bleck. I suppose I’ll give it a few more hours then call my OB. In the meantime, all Bloggy Baby Shower winners have been emailed. Remember, I must hear back from you before Friday morning or your prize will be given away to someone else.

On a side note, I found out from my mom this morning that today was also her mother’s birthday. I feel bad for not knowing this but it’s only because I never got a chance to meet my maternal grandmother. She passed away just months after I was born. But I do have a sweet reminder of how much she loved me with a pink blanket she hand knitted me. I’ll be bringing this to the hospital with me to wrap my daughter in. It’s very mysterious yet comforting to see how life is full of give and take. And then I realize today is also the whole Mardi Gras thing. I’m still not sure what the holiday is about.

UPDATE: 1:40 pm

Last update from home. After a nice little nap and talking with my doctor’s nurse, they want me to come in and get things going. I’ve had a terrible backache for hours that they seem to think ARE my contractions. Weird. But the pain is getting a little worse so I imagine they are right. So off I go to the hospital and hopefully have this baby in the next few hours. I’ll send an email to someone from my phone, or post on the MomDot.com Forums (have you joined yet?) and update there. Wish me luck!

Your doctor must be so relaxed to not be making you go to the hospital yet. I’m glad you have a little time left to do the things you want to get done and spend some quality time with your daughter. :) Good luck today Cat! I hope labor goes perfectly.

Congratulations!!! I hope that the day goes by as expected and baby girl makes a peaceful entrance into your World.

My oldest DS has a knitted blanket from his grandma, too. She died about 2 weeks before his birth. I hope it’s special to him someday in the future, too.
