This is Why I Want to Take a Sledge Hammer to a Wall

Every day is pretty much the same around here.

We wake up, eat breakfast, cartoons, lunch, play time, nap time (if I’m lucky), daddy comes home and dinner.

After that, I retreat to one of two bathrooms for a shower or semi-relaxing bubble bath. I say semi-relaxing because it’s small and uncomfortable but it’s warm, quiet and full of skin softening bubbles that are all mine and mine alone. Unless I forget to lock the bathroom door which means I get two toddler sized mermaids hopping in with me.

But none of that’s the problem. The problem is even as a kid I dreamed of having a big garden tub, one I could lay down in and just relax, completely and totally relax. So when we bought this house it was meant as nothing more than a starter home that we’d eventually sell after building our real house.

Well, it didn’t happen. We got the plot picked out, the blue prints drawn up and then my business income dropped significantly. So significant that I would no longer be able to take on the mortgage. And that left us turning our starter home into a lifetime home. The only problem … it came with two very small bathrooms. My dreams of having that garden tub were zapped.

So …. the sledge hammer.

I’m tired of walking into the bathroom after dinner and seeing this …

barbie filled bathtub

And the only thing standing in the way of my dream bathtub is a wall. A single wall that would turn our two small bathrooms into one giant bathroom! I’m not sure if this is a project I could do myself or who I would have to hire to do it but it’s gonna happen. I’m putting it on my 2012 bucket list even if it means I have to take a sledge hammer to the wall myself.

Do you have any home improvements you want to make happen this year?

I hope you get your dream bathroom this year!! I’d like to get my barn finished (it’s been 4 years now) and finish the back deck. We have a lot of 1/2 finished projects I would LOVE to get behind us!

I hope you get a chance to get those finished. I’m afraid of starting most projects because they’ll drive me nuts until they do get done.

oh honey, you deserve that garden bathtub, I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!!! get that sledghammer :)

  3. Ummm…..Josh started a basement addition…..looooong time ago. I gave him a deadline. He has until August to get some walls up or I am calling a contractor. So come August I’ll have something going LOL

Cat, you are a determined person. I know you and I know that one way or another you’ll get your garden tub!

    • Cat Davis says:

So a “building contractor” is who I’d need to call to get this wall taken out?

      • Yup! I’d check out AngiesList.com first though. Some contractors can royally screw people, leaving them with half done job and stuff. But there are some others that are fabulous. Thankfully for me, Josh works in that industry so he knows how around here is good and not good. Angieslist.com is great for reading who to stay away from :)

Oh I feel you! We love this house we purchased. We are remodeling the entire thing. Actually the two baths and kitchen and stair way are all we have left (oh and wood floors). I have always dreamed of a HUGE bath. Hubs and me are both very tall, so it definitely is something we crave!

    • Cat Davis says:

Yeah, my hubs is tall too, he’s never been able to fit in the tub which sucks because he really doesn’t know what he’s missing.

Aiming to re-do part of the hall bathroom, with a new vanity and sink, and storage area.

  6. I’m not a bath person. I’ve tried it. We actually have a master bathroom prepped for a spa tub in our bedroom but it will be quipped to handle salt based water (my psoriasis). Too bad that since the room is just floor and walls (and capped plumbing) it will be Sawyer’s room for the next 2 years….

  7. I hope you get your dream bathroom someday. You definitely deserve it. I would love to have a garden tub as well. I’m just too tall to fit in a normal bath and enjoy myself.

I have always wanted a big bathtub. Last year, we did get a new one which is a little bigger than the previous tub, but nothing like I really want!

  9. I want our master bath functional. I don’t care if it’s pretty! I’m tired of sharing one toilet with 5 people. I want my own place to be. I won’t have a tub, won’t fit in our bathroom, but just having our own shower would be wonderful.

You should totally do it!! Growing up my parents added two stories to our mountain home, you could totally make it happen!

I finally have my big tub, my girls have their own a small one that is also filled with mermaids and dinosaurs.

I am glad to see my tub isn’t the only one that looks like that. Mine is worse though … it is grey. Dreams of a big tub are still there for me … maybe one day!
