There are a lot of words I could use to describe motherhood but the one that I would use to describe it most often is “challenging”. From the moment each child was born to this very minute, it has been a challenging process. But there’s also a wonderful bright side to parenting. All those firsts, the hugs, the slobbery kisses, belly laughs and even those first few months when real food is introduced.
Shortly after starting solid foods, not from a jar, we found ourselves having a lot of trouble getting the kids to eat. Maybe it was the new textures, shapes or even the flavors. I had to start getting creative and even encourage bad behaviors at the table to get the job done. One of our favorite meals is spaghetti night. I use to chop the pasta so our toddler could scoop it up on a spoon to eat. I mean, that’s what moms do right? However, our daughter would flat out refuse to eat spaghetti like that. So I did what I had to do and tossed table manners aside and let her slurp her spaghetti. Now that she’s four, she’s still slurping spaghetti and cleaning her plate. I may not win any awards for teaching table manners but I do have a little girl with a healthy appetite, so long as she gets to eat pasta her way.
In the end, motherhood comes down to compromise. We let the little things go and save the battles for the truly important issues. One of those important issues for me is snack-time. I refuse to let those in between meals become junk food fests, instead pushing healthy foods, especially fresh fruit and vegetables. Sometimes snack time falls at a time when we’re out running errands so I pack up the next best thing. Happy Family offers a complete line of organic, nutrient-rich foods for babies’, toddlers’, and kids’ growing bodies all available in convenient packaging. My daughter loves all of the fruit combinations and I love that they can get healthy snacks no matter where we are when they get hungry.
