So the apples … described as
A cross between the popular Honeycrisp and Zestar! varieties. Flavor: Juicy and sweet with hints of fall spices. Appearance: blush apple with deep red coloration over a yellow breaking background. Availability: early-season apple, harvested in late August and early September.
Sounds delicious doesn’t it? Well, they are! The SweeTango has combined the tartness I love with a touch of sweetness, a crisp texture and my goodness are they juicy. When deciding how to prepare these I put them on a Sweet/Tart scale somewhere around a 7 (1 being sweet, 10 being tart). Knowing this, I cut the sugar down just a bit so there would be enough to create a saucy apple filling but not enough to hide the wonderful sweet-tart harmony these apples offer.

- Serve warm.

Sounds so yummy! I will definitely be giving this a try.
Thanks for posting a clear delicious recipe!
I looks good, I might have to try that.
I haven’t heard of this variety of apples either, I’ll have to keep an eye out for them. Are they more sweet or tart? This looks great as a dessert braid!
PS – I see that you said they are sweet but have no idea what a Zestar apple is too, lol.
LOL I’ve never tried a Zestar either. I think they’re the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Like right in the middle between a red delicious and granny smith but they’re nice and crunch like a granny smith.
OMG, this looks sooo yummy!
That looks tasty.

I`ve never heard of Sweet tango apples either! Maybe they have another name they go by? :D Either way I have to try this with readily available Braeburn or something, it looks INCREDIBLE and not impossible even for a n00b baker like myself :D AND there`s only a quarter cup of sugar!! Pretending to be guilt free :D Love it!

I just realized you never actually specified when/where to put the chunks of butter so I don’t feel so bad about forgetting to do it til it was already in the oven. I assumed it was the same as apple pie anyways. Awesome recipe by the way!
