April has been quite the unpredictable month with temperatures bouncing between freezing and a steamy 80-something degrees. Rain has been spotty at best and well, it has been just too flip-floppy to even consider planting my vegetable garden. Looking at the weeks ahead we should be on a steady incline into the upper 70’s and maybe even back to the 80’s again making the first week of May perfect for getting my garden growing again.

It’s rather pathetic looking right now don’t you think?

We still have carrots from last year hanging around, weeds growing all over and some of the herbs came back and took over so much space.

Garden Before

When I think back to how bountiful and beautiful it was just a year ago, I can’t help but get excited to think we’ll have bunches of fresh herbs, tomatoes, carrots and garlic again soon.

To celebrate the beginning of gardening season in Illinois I’m gathering up my best buds and family to have a little garden planting party. It’ll be a fun way to celebrate Spring with people I love, share some garden fresh recipes and of course, get some help replanting our garden. The incentive? We always have lots of tomatoes to share with everyone throughout the summer.

Thanks to Snapfish I’ll be sharing some goodies with my party-goers that I created online. The Snapfish store not only lets you print photos for albums but there’s lots of creative products to incorporate into just about any party. For our garden theme I created a notebook and journal featuring some of my favorite garden inspired recipe photos that we can use to jot down new recipes all summer long. There’s even a desk organizer that features a full photo that I thought we be cute to hold the spoons, forks and knives on our dessert table.

We’re also making our garden party extra special because we’re celebrating with Snapfish by HP. Snapfish is celebrating their 12 year anniversary with free party printables that you can download and print. Whether you’re celebrating Spring with a backyard BBQ or having friends over for brunch, these printables will fit in perfectly. You’ll find party hats, funny photo props, pinwheels, decorations and more. We’re planning to incorporate these into our garden theme in a very unique way but I don’t want to spill all of the details yet. For now, you can visit Snapfish by HP online to create your own custom products or download the Snapfish party printables for the kids.
