Much like my problem with lasagna, finding the right flavor blend of beef stew is something I’m finding to be pretty difficult. Growing up, beef stew was a dish my mom made in the pressure cooker and the flavor came from the beef drippings. It’s something I just can’t duplicate in the slow cooker but I keep trying out different recipes hoping to find something I’ll love just as much.
One recipe I stumbled on was a Tomato-less Rustic Beef Stew on the Southern Plate blog. It tastes as good as it looks but it still doesn’t quite capture the childhood flavors I know and love. However, if you’re looking for an easy recipe and simple flavors, this one is the recipe for you.
