Assuming we’ve experienced our last freeze of the year, I’m looking forward to getting back outside and gardening again. Transforming my baron raised bed garden into a bountiful garden of vegetables is a top priority for me in the next couple of weeks. In year’s past we’ve grown broccoli, onions, tomatoes, herbs, carrots and turnips. Since the space is limited I’m thinking this year I’d like to maximize the space and narrow down my vegetable selections to ones we eat almost daily. I’m thinking I’ll go with just a few tomato plants, carrots and bell peppers.
Our front porch flower bed is badly in need of some sprucing up. I never really made a plan when I decided to plant mums in this area but this year I’d like to remedy the eye-sore with some bordering and other flowers that will bloom during the summer months while the mums continue to grow bushy and green.
I also have a pretty big project in mind I’d like to try. The Home Depot has a project showing how to make a butterfly island bed full of gorgeous flowers that attract butterflies. My daughters are absolutely fascinated by butterflies and they’re not an insect we see around here often. This project lists everything I’d need to do this project and even includes a how-to video that is perfect for a landscaping beginner like myself.

I’m thinking the corner of our yard around the lilac bush would be a great spot to make this shallow flower bed. It doesn’t look like much now but I think after a trip to The Home Depot and some supplies, I can make this a beautiful area.
I realize this is probably a lot to tackle in just a few short months but I’m 99% sure these are projects we can get accomplished as a family. The Home Depot provides a lot of gardening and landscape resources online. We’re also joining the Garden Club online membership to make these projects affordable with over $300 in exclusive savings at The Home Depot. You also get $5 off a $50 garden purchase just for signing up.
