This past week I treated the kids and myself to a nice little home-cooked lunch. It doesn’t sound that special but it really is because lunch time is usually a quick sandwich or soup, even something that’s eaten on the go. Sitting down at the table for a hot meal is a luxury during that time of the day.

Knowing my kids are huge fans of anything Italian, I whipped up a quick pot of spaghetti and treated them to a big plate of warm bread with a little extra special topping. I introduced them to a new product from Land O’Lakes —  Butter with Olive Oil and Sea Salt.

Earlier in the week I was invited to attend an online webinar with the amazing (and hilarious) Ree Drummond, more popularly known as The Pioneer Woman. Not only is she an accomplished food and family blogger but she’s the author of two of my all-time favorite cookbooks and when not watching Saturday morning cartoons with the kids, I’m also tuning into her cooking show on Food Network.

So, the webinar, it really was an amazing experience where I watched in as Ree shared her love of butter (who doesn’t?) and the new Butter with Olive Oil and Sea Salt which I tried myself for the first time this week.

Since butter happens to be one of my all-time favorite things to use in the kitchen, I was really excited to experiment with this new flavor but before jumping into layering flavors, I wanted to try this butter in a simple way to get a good feel for it. Used in place of plain salted butter, I whipped up a bowl of Parmesan Garlic Spread which makes bread so flavorful. You can change the amounts to your own liking but I like to keep it simple with butter, garlic powder, an Italian seasoning blend and shredded Parmesan cheese all spread over a soft Vienna bread.

The key to cooking with butter (as Ree mentioned during the webinar) is to keep it low. Butter has a lower smoke point than most popular oils, meaning it will burn when used with high temperatures. When grilling bread I like to set the temperature to medium-low and slowly grill the bread for a few minutes on each side.

I love the golden brown color you get when cooking with butter and the olive oil/sea salt flavor just makes the flavor even more delicious.

It’s a great combo, especially just on bread. I’m hoping to find time to use it in a sauce with chicken this week.

I was surprised myself. You always see salted and unsalted but nothing with a truly unique flavor like this one.

I am going to have to try that butter if I see it. I have seen the brand but I have never bought it. Your bread looks yummy and its only 10am.

Oh really, you should try the salted version too. I almost always buy Land O’Lakes just because of the flavor, generics just aren’t the same.

Oh man that butter sounds like heaven! I love me some Sea Salt! I’m going to maybe have to make a special trip to the store tomorrow now lol.

I ended up finding it at Meijer after looking everywhere. If you can believe it, I just tried actual sea salt a few months ago. I switched and haven’t looked back since. Love it!

We don’t have that store in my parts. I just bought Sea Salt Popcorn yesterday. Had a bag already. Heaven! :)

    This recipe is gorgeous!
I’ve tried it last Sunday. Land ‘O Lakes is quite hard to find in my area, but worth for trying. The sea salt is tasty.

This recipe sounds absolutely delicious. Going to give it a go myself tonight and see what I manage to come out with (god help me!). I’ll be back to report with my results shortly 8-)
