This landscaping project has been a work in progress for many years. Most of it was just ideas and to-do lists but this year we got down to business and made the dream a reality. It all started with a phone call to Border Creations, a company that specializes in concrete landscape border for flower beds. We had them come out for an estimate and two weeks later they were here and ready to work.
In the past we’ve tried the plastic borders, brick borders, all sorts of cheap DIY options but nothing ever held up. It was a pain to mow around, tackle weeds and well, you can see for yourself below. It was just plain ugly!
When the Border Creations team came out, we had four areas where they’d be working. The biggest section was curvy boarder around the front porch that wraps around the side of the house. The second are was a tree ring for my front yard Magnola. The third, a curvy piece around the corner of the front yard to include my Lilac bush. And the fourth, a small strip near the mailbox where our yard is divided from the neighbors.
After a day or two of drying time we got to work laying down the weed blocker fabric. I can’t say for sure how well this will work but I’m really, really hoping it will cut back on the weeds. I even managed to transplant one of the healthier mums.
Then we spent several days picking out plants, digging holes and filling in with rock. This section isn’t quite finished, I have some Dahlias bulbs that still need to go in, a daisy and some Gladiolus.
The best part about finishing this project is knowing I’ll never have to do it again. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love getting my hands dirty, chasing the girls down with the worms I find and doing some hard labor … but I only like to do it once. Everything we planted will come back year after year and hopefully I’ll only have to deal with a stray weed or two.
