Last month when our family first began the Listerine Oral Care Challenge we were really lacking an oral care schedule. There were many things in our lives we had prioritized and organized quite well but taking time for flossing/rinsing wasn’t one of them. With the help of some expert advice and an oral care kit full of new toothbrushes, floss and rinse aids we got on the right track.
Floss. Brush. Rinse. Reward.
It’s amazing what kids will do with a little incentive. When they’re younger it doesn’t even have to be a “big” reward. You can put together a small box of cheap toys, stickers and sugar-free treats. It’s enough to get kids excited about completing the small task of brushing their teeth.
We used a simple chart to give the kids stars three times a day for successfully flossing, brushing and rinsing their mouths. At the end of each week they were rewarded for a completed chart. It really is as simple as that and comes with benefits that will last a lifetime.
Aside from the reward chart it really helped our kids to have oral care tools they could get excited about. Their favorite characters on the toothbrushes and brightly colored rinse aid has been something they enjoy using. Listerine Smart Rinse and Reach Toothbrushes are perfect for young children especially my little girls who adore Barbie.
So what’s our plan for the future? In addition to continuing the reward chart we’ll also schedule our daughter’s first appointment with a pediatric dentist and a follow-up appointment for our son. I’m hoping to find the perfect dentist that my children can be comfortable with and make sure their teeth and gums are as healthy as possible.
