Yesterday was a big day for Miss Kaydee … she celebrated her 6th birthday!
My baby girl is getting so darn big and every single day she acts a little more grown up. It really doesn’t feel like it has been six years since I held her pudgy little 8 pound 13 ounce body in my arms for the first time .. especially when I look down and see her curls reaching up to my chin.
I wasn’t fond of the idea but she’s head over heels in love with Monster High dolls so naturally she begged for a Monster High birthday theme. I suppose it’s not the worst thing ever but the dolls still creep me out. We actually hadn’t really planned on doing anything but at the last minute we stopped at Party City to get her a few decorations. It was just a mini celebration with delivered pizza, cake, ice cream and a little bowling. She already got pretty spoiled with a few gifts from her MawMaw, her big birthday surprise and a little something from Matt and Emma.
Wilton was kind enough to send over some cake decorating supplies. I had originally planned to make her a cake with the Monster High Skull Cake Pan but then I found out hubby ordered a cake. So I made her a little tower of Cherry Chip cupcakes (her favorite). I thought it would be fun to try a new technique with the buttercream. For two toned frosting all you need is 2-12 inch pastry bags, 1-16 inch pastry bag, 2 shades of frosting and a 1M tip.
Fill up the two smaller pastry bags with the buttercream and tie them at the top. The tip goes in the larger pastry bag.
Put both small bags in the large bag and tie it off again.
The frosting comes out really pretty with one side in pink and the other in blue. The colors bleed together a little bit and made a purple streak that gave these a really cool tie-dye look.
Wilton has an entire collection of Monster High Birthday decorations for cupcakes, cakes and party treats. The cupcake stand is actually surprisingly sturdy!
And of course there’s the Monster High Birthday Cake from Walmart. It definitely saved me a lot of time and frustration.
But the best part of the day was just seeing how absolutely happy my little girl is!
