Every June the rose garden in Springfield (IL) Washington Park is in full bloom with dozen’s of beautiful varieties. We love taking the kids there to check out the colors and of course all of the different scents. It’s such a peaceful place to go on one of the less busy weekdays. The kids can run all over the grassy area while I just hang back to stop and smell the roses.

When I was a teenager it also happened to be my little secret spot to sit and read poetry away from all the trivial crap that goes along with teenage life.

  1. Your roses are so pretty and your children are adorable!

    • Thanks … I sure wish I could pick some to bring home but I have a feeling I’d get in big trouble for that one. There’s only one bush of each different variety.

  2. beautiful roses and beautiful girls!

  3. That place looks beautiful! We have five types of roses in our yard that the previous owner planted but I have no idea how to take care of them so they bloom for like two days & then die. Oops.

    • I’ve never had much luck with roses either. We planted 5 bushes when we first moved here and they just never did really well so I dug them up this year.

  4. I love roses. Those girls have the sweetest smiles too!

  5. Beautiful roses (and kids too!). That looks like it would have been a beautiful place to write poetry and reflect on life.

  6. Very pretty. Your girls are adorable!

  7. Beautiful flowers, both the ones in the garden and the little girls :)

  8. OMG Cat LOVE the pics of the girls too cute!!!!

  9. Love those roses – perfect blooms!

  10. I didn’t know they had a rose garden where you’re at! That’s really neat; I hope one day I’ll be able to visit :)

    • Yes, it’s gorgeous … you must come visit. There’s not a lot I love about Springfield but Washington Park is at the top of my list.

  11. Oh those roses are absolutely gorgeous! I have a few rose bushes, maybe I’ll share them next week! Your girls are just as adorable as ever!

  12. Great pictures. I planted a few rose bushes I got for my birthday, but I think I ruined them

    • Uh oh, you might be surprised. I actually dug my rose bushes out of the ground and guess what just grew back? …. the bushes. LOL I can’t get rid of them but I have to. The Japanese Beetles swarm them all summer.

  13. What a nice thing to do each year! Looks like the girls had fun and the roses are gorgeous!

    • They did have a lot of fun. We try to go at least once a week, it’s a nice place to just get away from it all.

  14. Gorgeous flowers!

  15. I can’t believe you took those with your iphone. They are GREAT! I wish we had smellivision.

    • It’s amazing the technology available today isn’t it? I can’t wait to see what the camera on the iPhone5 does. It’s so much easier for travelling than lugging around the bulky DSLR.

  16. Carolyn G says:

The roses are almost as beautiful as your daughters!

  17. I love roses. I planted 10 varieties this spring. I lost 2 but the rest are doing great. The girls are cuties!

  18. Beautiful pictures!

  19. Great shots! Your girls are so pretty.
