Last month I first announced my partnership with Maytag and shared the old kitchen appliances I would be replacing. Not long after that post delivery day came and my kitchen was transformed into a stainless steel oasis. It was probably the most exciting and challenging day of 2012 to date. My initial excitement was quickly replaced with challenges that left me feeling a bit defeated in my own kitchen. Not being the type of person that adapts well to big changes I decided to cast my fear of the unknown aside and dove right in. It probably wasn’t the best idea because I found myself burning easy meals and doing twice as many loads of dishes than normal.
Fortunately, all it took was time and practice to discover some really innovative features the Maytag appliances had to offer and I even found myself falling in love with them.
Maytag® Ice2O® French Door Refrigerator with Easy Access Refrigerator Drawer
The Easy Access Refrigerator Drawer is the one feature of this refrigerator that caught my eye right away. It’s a upgrade to the standard french door style fridge that provides easy access to refrigerator contents without opening the entire unit. In a house with small children that frequently raid the fridge, it’s helpful to put their most wanted snacks in this drawer and I don’t have to worry about the main doors being left cracked open. What the refrigerator lacks in interior organization is definitely makes up with this drawer.
Maytag® Electric Range with Triple-Choice™ and Speed Heat™ and Over-the-Range Microwave
Out of all the Maytag appliances the range and oven have been the most difficult for me to adjust to. Clearly my old set was running below normal operating temperatures because I initially found that I was burning everything. All of the meals and baked goodies that I knew by heart were cooking much faster than expected. After a few weeks of trial and error I finally got my cooking mojo back and learned to love some of the features. One particular feature I like is the Triple-Choice heating element. This is my first time experiencing a burner option that allows you to adjust the heating element based on the size of your pot or skillet.
As for the microwave, it felt pretty standard to me at first until I discovered the control panel not only offers the standard options but a special kids meal option. Normally this would go ignored but I find that my son uses the microwave more than I do and discovered he can use this feature to cook kid friendly meals like: pizza, chicken nuggets, oatmeal, hot dogs and more.
Maytag® Jetclean® Plus Dishwasher with Fully Integrated Controls
Last but not least, the dishwasher. At first I was really disappointed with dish rack layout. My old dishwasher was organized much differently so it took me several loads to find a system that worked well for our dish washing needs. Once I figured out how to organize the dishes efficiently I was able to really enjoy some of the advanced features. One that caught my eye right away was the detergent tray. Not only is it clearly labeled and shaped for detergent tabs but the rinse aid section includes a meter to show you when rinse aid gel needs to be added. My old dishwasher always frustrated me because I could go several cycles before knowing the rinse aid was gone. This really takes the guesswork out of the equation and makes me happy!
While I’m still in the discovery stages with these appliances I feel like they are ones that I can depend on for my daily needs. There are a lot of advanced features that I have yet to use but you can rest assured, each appliance will get a full review in the coming months.
