I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Discover Boating. I received collateral to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
Renting a boat and getting out on the lake is something we’ve been talking about since early spring. It wasn’t today that we finally got the chance to actually do it. We got a babysitter for the morning and my husband and I popped over to the Lake Springfield Marina to rent a fishing boat. We’ve learned that even if a boat isn’t in your budget right this moment, renting is a fantastic option. Our local marina offers fishing boats for less than $100 and 6 full hours of fun.
Neither of us have a lot of boating experience, mostly just boating and fishing during camping trips when I was a kid. While it was a lot of fun going for the ride back then, being the adult and getting to sit behind the steering wheel for once is an incredible experience.
My husband was pretty excited too! The last boat he was on was during a camping trip and it wasn’t a motor boat, it was an old “Jon Boat” with oars powered by good old-fashioned upper body strength. This time he let the motor do all the work and sent us flying across the lake at top speed.
We had planned to do some fishing but after an hour and not a single bite, we just tossed the poles aside and went on a little adventure checking out all of the nooks and crannies that Lake Springfield has. My favorite part was being able to get up close and personal with the wildlife.
We spotted quite a few Herons hanging out on the old dead trees and some HUGE fish flopping above the water surface.
Before school starts up we’re going to rent again and take the kids out with us this time. I just know they’re going to be all lit up seeing the lake we drive over every single day from a whole new perspective. And after doing some research we’ve also deciding that owning a boat is definitely in our future. This cost comparison tool shows you just how affordable owning a boat can be.
Also, years ago when I was a teenager my brother-in-law took me out boating and had me gliding across the water in a tube. There are a lot of fun boating activities on and off board.
I’d love to know, have you and your family gone out boating this summer?
