Now that fall is almost here and I’m getting back into the swing of a busy schedule with my three children, I’m striving to find more balance in my life especially when it comes to fitness. Often times as parents, we put our physical needs aside to make sure our kids are getting good meals, dedicated one on one time and shuffled to and from after school activities. This kind of crazy scheduling can put your body’s needs on the back burner.
Fortunately, I’ve been finding my balance by getting myself involved with the family through play time and helping my kids practice for their fall sports. My son is right in the middle of football season and to give him an extra edge on the field, I spend a lot of time tossing the football with him at home. It’s a great time for us to bond and burn calories all at the same time.
Recently, we made a trip to Sports Authority to get our daughter’s gear for her fall season of soccer. After fully outfitting her in cleats, shorts, shin guards and socks, we found a hot pink soccer ball for her to practice with at home. This brightly colored ball got her more excited about her first competitive sport and keeps her interest at home while she’s chasing me through the yard trying to steal the ball. Practicing at home with my daughter also happens to be a great way to burn off extra calories in the afternoon.
I’ve quickly learned that it doesn’t cost a lot of money to get into fitness and it can be a lot of fun when you get the whole family involved. im tot tally sure it doesnt count as real exercise, but honestly going up and down and up and down my stairs at my home, definitely keeps me fit! I think the thing I do most that helps me stay fit and grounded, is my daily walk with Jill(my dog). Our walks are long, and fun because I talk to her as we walk and I watch her sniff for whatever she can find to run down.lol We always go to the creek and walk along the edge for a ways.. it’s fun, keeps me in shape and helps put any troubles I may have to rest. I go to the park sometimes & walk but the walks with Jill are a daily thing and one I always enjoy. I also love working in the yard/garden, now im getting ready to put up the Halloween lights! We do a lot of walking! Here in the suburbs that makes us odd but we grew up in the city where walking everywhere is just something people do! I love the looks I get when I tell people I walked to get there (the store, doctors office etc).

I think consistency is key here. We take family walks in the evenings and I try and go with the kiddos in the mornings. We ride our bikes, scooter, bring strollers. We also have a mini trampoline that all of us like to use, suprisingly you can get a great work out from that.

We try to stay as active as we can. We play soccer and kickball in the backyard. We also like to walk the dogs alongside our daughter who is riding her bike. The exercise is invigorating and improves my mood.

I run and lift weights.

To stay fit as a family we take long walks in the nature preserve near our house. Also I sneak in a quick workout with our cable providers exercise on demand service, they have a ton of workouts that take as little as ten minutes, so it really works with my schedule!

I set an example by going to Jazzercise class 3 – 4 times a week. With the kids we take walks, jump on the trampoline and generally lead an active lifestyle. My daughter is active in basketball.

To stay fit I try to go on our treadmill while the kids are having some down time. We also play in the yard a lot.
my main exercise is Jazzercise, I love it, the musice and dance with a combo of yoga, kickboxing,and pilates makes me a healthy parent and shows the kids that being active can be healthy and fun!

I like water aerobics and my Wii Fit :) I also like biking but I haven’t done much of it lately.
Even though life is busy,. I enter my son into as many organized sports as we can to keep him active. This summer he did swimming, gold, baseball, Irish football, then ended the summer with flag football. Now soccer season starts this week. It keeps us all on the go!
I ride bikes with my family and walk my doggies. It’s good for my body and my brain.

Bike riding – not only is it a healthy activity, it’s a fun alternative to hopping in the car to go places. Luckily our town is small enough that riding a bike will get us most places.

I do pilates and lots of walking-
Once every week or so we have “Dancin Dinner” where we crank the music and dance while we make dinner. Everyone one loves it (including the neighbors!) Its a great way to infuse exercise in with family time
I try to spend as much time as possible in the pool & playing basketball with my boys. This helps me stay fit & spend quality time with them.

My children are teens so we are able to do lots of outdoor activities We love to go trail running/walking we get up early on the weekends and go run/walking in the forest park. It’s so beautiful and we feel amazing afterwards.

We enjoy hopscotch, and skipping along with jump rope. I feel certain that we will be able to add regular hula-hooping to the fun, in the near future.

My children are adults now but we used to pile them and a bunch of their friends into our station wagon and head for the park. Bringing their friends along made it even more fun for them and we had enough kids to play touch football or one of the many group games like dodge ball or tag. I go rollerblading and biking both alone and with the kids I babysit for. I’m also always willing to jump in a game of tag or capture the flag, the kids are happy because I am playing and it is promoting exercise. Thanks!
