Introducing the Philips goLITE BLU
The Philips goLITE BLU energy light is a portable light therapy device which is designed to help you increase your energy level naturally and fight winter blues. Its small size makes it easy to use wherever it suits you best.
Clinically proven* – Independent clinical research shows that the blue light from the summer sky triggers our bodies to be active and energetic, and regulates our mood.
Helps to fight winter blues – Using the goLITE energy light for as little as 15 to 45 minutes a day naturally improves your mood and energy level throughout the day.
Features
- built in clock
- treatment reminder alarm
- backlit touch screen
The following information was provided by Ketchum PR as a summary following a webinar I attended with Oz Garcia Ph.D, a highly regarded nutritional counselor and life extension specialist.
What is the “Winter Blues”?
An estimated 10-20% of adults (or more than 10 million people each year in N. America) suffer from symptoms of the “Winter Blues,” including:
- Loss of energy
- Low spirits
- Difficulty with concentration
- Increased appetite
How do we Fight the Winter Blues?
- Increase Physical Activity
- Increase your Diet with Complex Carbohydrates such as oatmeal and yams
- Eat foods rich in Vitamin D such as salmon, tuna and fortified milk
- Use a Light Energy Device with Blue Light
Our Experience
Living in a part of the United States that offers frequent seasonal changes, experiencing the winter blues is not uncommon. In fact, every Fall I notice my mood change. With the weather getting cooler, I spend less time outdoors and become moody in the sense that I sleep longer hours, have less energy and eat more, particularly sweets. As spring rolls around, much like it is now, I find myself feeling quite the opposite, wanting to go outside and enjoy the day, spending less time digging through the cabinets and feel like myself again.
One way I’ve found to combat these seasonal changes is with light therapy. For the past month and a half I’ve been using the Philips goLITE Blu Energy Light after swapping it with my other light therapy desk lamp. One of the biggest differences I noticed is the light itself. While many lights like my own use a white light, the Philips goLITE BLU uses a blue light. Blue Light helps to restore the essential light signals needed to boost our mood and energy levels naturally.
The one thing I really love about the Philips goLITE Blu over a traditional white light therapy desk lamp is its portable size. At just 14 x 14 inches in size along with the travel case, it can be easily and discreetly used in any room of the house or during travel. I’ve also found that the blue light is much easier on my eyes and can easily be adjusted to the appropriate strength needed.
Now of course, light therapy isn’t just something you should just jump right into. To create the perfect schedule for your needs, Philips offers and online Circadian Rhythm Test to determine the severity of your problem, if one exists and the appropriate schedule to use.
Room for Improvement
The touchscreen interface, while technologically advanced, was very confusing to setup. The user guide would be very handy to keep on hand should you need to make adjustments to your light therapy schedule.

I definitely fight the winter blues every winter season. Love that it takes a small amount of time to see an improvement 15-465 minutes a day.
I definately experience winter blues, I have every single winter. I think the “blue” light feature is nice because it’s more calming than a “white” light. Thanks for the chance!

The feature I would like the best is the built in remined because I often forget things. After having no sunlight & really hating the cold weather I will say I have the winter blues..This weather is just depressing & that all there is to it..
I do feel pretty down when I am stuck in the house on cold and rainy days. I like the fact that it uses LED lights that have a 50 year lifetime.
I know I suffer. It was much worse when we lived up north and we were stuck inside most of the time. The feature that I like is the travel size.

I’ll tell you this much, I certainly have the winter blues of a different sort. I’m sad that winter’s about to end, because here in Arizona, that can only mean that summer is just around the corner.
I think the fact that the goLITE is clinically proven to increase our body’s energy and regulates our mood would certainly be of good use to my worries.

This is amazing – haven’t heard of it before so I’m glad I saw this. I definitely suffer from SAD – living in the dreary gray northern/midwest. I love the fact that it is portable so anyone in our house could use it each day!
My son and I both have SAD. I don’t leave my house more than once or twice a month in winter, just to grocery shop, etc. When I was in my twenties the doc said I had the bones of an 80 year old due to hip dysplasia. My son’s teacher mentioned she thought he had SAD and the doctor agreed. This light could be a big help. I would try anything that could give us more energy.

I am sure I am suffering from winter blues. If it doesn’t get sunny soon I think I am going to have to go to the dr its gotten so bad. We have had over 200 inches of snow this season and I have been sick most of it so have really been housebound. I like that the light is so small. Its hard to find places to put things as it is.
I am signed up for email updates.
This Winter has been especially hard to endure – not only did we have much more snow here in South New Jersey but there were far fewer sunny days than usual. Other Winters I’ve been able to find a sheltered spot on the deck for 10 or 15 minutes of sun at least twice a week, but not this year! If I win this great product I will use it at the computer desk EVERY day!
I think the point that it could boost my energy level is a plus for me. it’s small and compact too
Its small size and portability (battery-powered) mean that I could use it anywhere in my house.
I always feel down during the winter months. I like that it has a wide field of light which enables you to do other tasks while benefiting from the blu light
My family could benefit from this – and the timer is a great function.
I experience the winter blues all year long because of constant stress that I don’t deserve. I think the treatment reminder alarm would be the best feature.
I do think I experienced the winter blues. The feature I would find most useful are both the adjustable timer and adjustable light intensity.

I do get the blues, try to get outside as much as I can in winter but it’s hard. I like that it has a wider treatment field and the bulbs are supposed to last 50years if used 30 min a day.
Yes I am experiencing the winters blues.
I would like the reminder.

I am experiencing the winter blues and want this to help with only 15 minutes
Yes, every year I get the blues in the winter. This would be wonderful to have. I like that it has rechargable batteries, will save money and save the environment!
I like the brightness adjustment, this would be great to have, we’re surrounded by oak trees and this time of year the house seems much too dark.
I am not as bad this winter as I have been in the past, we had a new dog so did get out in the sun more, I definitely noticed a difference in how I felt compared to another winter when we had 3 foot of snow for 4 months, I was irritable and restless to say the least.
I like that the LEDs have a 50 year life, that’s refreshing after so many things are built to self destruct

I’m definitely feeling the winter blues. Way too much snow this winter. All of Feb seemed to be a snow storm every week. I like that the light could boost my energy level and mood.
I think I have the winter time blues and did not know there was a such thing as light therapy however I will be checking into it now.
It’s interesting to me that you have this up. I wrote a blog about these a few weeks ago, wondering if anyone had ever used one of these. I feel like a suffer terribly from the winter blues! Usually every year we have warm sunny days, at least a few betweek January and spring. This year we had none! It was really startig to get to me. I started reseacrching and was reading about these lights. I didn’t buy one because no one I know had used one, and the price was higher that I could afford to pay. It was feed my 6 kids or buy the light LOL. Ok, so not literally, but there are always more priorities with 6 kids the ME. My needs are just not a priority.
Being that I suffer from this condition I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have one of these. I told my husband I hope that we do not ever have to move to alaksa(military) or I might have to coever my walls in every room if these things work.
Oh, and I already subscribe to email updates, and twitter, amd about to blog and facebook now.

My husband is in the military and we have been stationed in North Dakota for the past 4 winters. I truthfully haven’t had a problem with the winters until this past one. I am pregnant with our third baby and my other two are under 3 years old so I am stuck in the house for months. It can be very hard on the spirit. I love that this product is small and portable, something that you can use anywhere. I am going to share this information with all of my North Dakota friends!
I have a horrible time with the lack of light from mid January to mid March (Thank God we’re through it!!!) and the “blues” that come with it. I am most excited about the size of this device. I suffer from seasonal depression each year. This year has been really bad because we have had more snow and rain than normal. Sunlight has been very scarce this winter. I love that it is portable and can be taken on trips. Thanks!

I get a little down when it’s cold and gloomy out. I think the light itself from this would perk me up.
I definitely fight the winter blues every winter season. Love that it takes a small amount of time to see an improvement 15-465 minutes a day.
This can boost my energy level. I need it. The winter blues have got me down, except for this weekened, it’s gonna be 72 tomorrow!

I think the energy feature is going to be what i like. Its not just the winter blues i battling but the graveyard shift blues, Working in a dim lighted job feeling like i am turning into a sloth. Energy, Energy is what i wantttttttt.

using it for as little as 15 minutes a day can improve mood/energy levels, sounds good
I am suffering from post partum depression and the doctor suggested today that i go into a tanning bed? I laughed at him thinking in my head what will i do with my three little boys while laying in the tanning bed. This goLite seems much more practical. The weather here in WA can be real dark, rainy and gloomy. Please pick me this would help me so much.
I haven’t felt good for several weeks – went to dr – she found nothing. Wonder if I have the winter blues? I know I’m READY for it to be over.
I would definitely say I experience the winter blues! I notice how different I feel when winter time starts coming around, it’s awful. And the feature I think would be most helpful would be the “Wider treatment field for flexibility” feature.

I got the winter blues and surely need to try this. I need an energy boost.
I do get the winter blues sometimes..just feel “blah” and lethargic. My fave feature is that it’s small and has a rechargable battery so it doesnt take up much space or energy!

I do not suffer from the winter blues, but my mother in law does big time. She’s affected by a cloudy day in the summer. To make matters worse, she lives alone 600 miles from family, has diabetes (which is a very depressing disease) and rarely has visitors. We go when we can, but with work, family, etc, we can’t go as often as any of us would like. The fact that it has a programable schedule would be good for her since she is very schedule oreinted. I would love to win this for her and see if it would give her any relief.

I know I have the winter blues because all I want to do is sleep and eat, especially carbs. I get cranky and irritable and don’t want to go anywhere.
We’ve been able to pretty much avoid the colds & flu aspect of this season, but that’s only been replaced by the ‘winter blues.’ Case in point; it was over 60 degrees here yesterday and today it’s snowing (again). A healthy dose of the Philips goLITE BLU energy light would definitely be welcomed here! :)
I’m starting to get over the winter blues because we have finally started to have a few warmer days, but our Minnesota winters are really long so I could use this!

I do experience a bit of seasonal depression. I think that the best feature would be the fact that it is small and easy to travel with!
I feel cooped up sometimes if I’m stuck indoors when it’s cold out. I like that I can do other activities during treatment duration!

SAAD is haunting me. I see help via the goLITE energy light to turn my frown around to a smile.
I know I feel slower & sleepier in the winter months… my son was dx’d with S.A.D. so I know it is very common in our part of the country.
I really like the portable size to it. we could easily take turns using it & not feel we are having to “do time” for energy :) It would be a great help in our house!

Thank you so much!
I’m always “down” in cold weather. I’d love the portability of this goLITE.
I definitely feel like I have reduced energy in the darker days of winter and I believe that light therapy helps. The size of the light is the best feature – if you can’t take it with you, you won’t use it.

I commented on the new business cards arrived post. Nice design! Love the corners.
I suffer from winter blues, lacking energy or enthusiasm. Blue light therapy is also supposed to be helpful for bipolar, which runs in my family.
I like that the goLite is portable, as we do travel some for my husbands job, so I could easily bring it with us.

I live in the Pacific NW and we suffer from a lack of sunlight at times- these lights are awesome- they would really help me out in the Jan/Feb months when we hardly see the blue sky at all- Thanks
When the weather is cold and grey, I do feel more tired and miserable. I’d love to try the BluLite. I think that having a built in clock would make it useful all day and not just for the short time of the therapy.

I unfortunately experience winter blues. Honestly, I feel that way all year. I suffer from Loss of energy, Low spirits, Difficulty with concentration and Increased appetite. I really love the treatment reminder alarm. Thank you so much for the great contest :)
I don’t know if it’s winter blues or that I was cut back to part time work , but I’d like to give this unit a try.
winter can be cold and long
Yes, just can’t wait for spring.
Every once in a while I have the winter blues. I like that it has a wide field of light gives the freedom during treatment to engage in activities such as computer work, reading or watching TV.
I’ve always had the “winter blues”. We lived in a sunny area and it greatly improved. We have since moved to another state and I can tell a definite difference in my mood and energy levels when it stays cloudy for 2 days or more.
I like the fact that I can use the Philips go LITE for as little as 15 minutes a day.

A better energy level would be a blessing!
Do I have the winter blues? YES! It’s snowing out now and it’s the first day of SPRING! I need the vit D!
great idea, thank you…
I definitely suffer from seasonal depression and living in the Northwest with the rainy Seattle days does not help =(. I have seen these in a couple of places and have been deterred simply by the price, but why not try to win it?! The reminder alarm would be very useful for me so that I could keep a regular schedule to maximize the effects, love it!
I definitely notice that I have an entirely different mood in the winter. Also, since I have very fair skin…I still can’t be in the sun that long during the warmer seasons. The BLU light would be perfect for me. I love that it’s very portable and that you don’t have to use it very long everyday.

i get the winter blues and the fact that this is small and portable will help me
hi we live in the pacific northwest and it is gloomy in the winter i could so use this! thanks
I commented before and just tweeted. My twitter name is Julianna2221. I really want to win this contest so badly. This would be a lifesaver for me .
I’m not experiencing the winter blues, but I could really use the alarm clock feature.
Kind of – the lack of sunlight blues – its been rainy here on padre island and it seems the sunniest days bring migraines or right now – my little one has a touch of RSV as well as bronchitis so we can’t go to the beach (its spring break anyway so I guess its good timing!)
I left a comment here: http://3kidsandus.com/2010/wordless-wednesday-meeting-paula-deen/comment-page-5/#comment-114967 and please don’t disqualify me – I meant to say that one feature i really love is its portability

Thanks for the giveaway…I know for a fact that I experience SAD; in the winter I always get fatigued this time of year and I gain about 8-10 lbs….my doctor told me to start taking 2000 units of Vitamin D / day as a supplement. I think a dose of blue light each day from the goLITE BLU energy light would give my pineal gland a needed daily kick start during the winter !!!

My winter is finally breaking up now. Even Daylight Savings Time brightens me up but I like that you can do other things while getting an energy light treatment. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I would say I get a full out depression or anything, but i definately get a mild winter blues! my favorite feature is the portable size
I can always tell when I’m coming down with SAD – and while I try to go outside and expose my eyes to sunlight, nature doesn’t always cooperate.
The feature I think is best is the “wide light” feature: “A wide field of light gives the freedom during treatment to engage in activities such as computer work, reading or watching TV.”
Yes, I get the winter blues. I had never really thought about it before I read your blog post – I had assumed my lethargy was because I couldn’t be outside gardening. I like the idea that it boosts mood and energy levels naturally.

we have had a really long and miserable winter this year, being mostly homebound in the winter, i have been very blue… snow, cold and grey skies…. i like the circadian rythm availability so you can regulate this right.
Yes, I think I am experiencing the winter blues. I think the treatment reminder alarm would benefit me.
I do suffer from the winter blues at times. I would love to try this. The feature I like best is that it’s small enough for me to take with me when I travel.

I think I’m experiencing the winter blues, and what feature of the Philip goLITE BLU I think would be most helpful for me is: the treatment reminder alarm.
I’m not sure what the definition of winter blues is, but if being glum and crabby is part of it then I’m right there. A few weeks ago I looked out the window and the sun was bright and it looked wonderful outside. I opened the door and nearly froze. It was only 8 degrees. What a disappointment!
I definitely suffer from the winter blahs in January and February. I love the portability of this and also the fact that it has an alarm to remind you to use it! ;)
I have had the winter blues this year and this would be awesome to improve energy/mood!

I definitely get the winter blues. I go to work when it is dark and come home in the dark. My office does not have a window. When I get home I have no energy and don’t feel like doing much. I really like that the light is small and portable. I could actually take it to work and use at lunchtime
Yes, I suffer from the winter blues, Iove that it boosts your energy level, thanks for the chance!
