Sometimes I look at my husband and think, gosh, he hasn’t changed a bit.
But then I stumble onto an old photo from when we first got married at look at the boy in those photos like I don’t recognize him at all.
I’ve been celebrating birthdays with him since he turned 21 years old. And here he is celebrating number 33. Time has passed, our faces have grown older but I didn’t see any of the changes happen. Sometimes when we’re bickering like newlyweds over trivial stuff (like the Friday argument over the thermostat temperature) I still think we’re young. But the truth is, we’re not kids anymore, even when we still behave like them. He may not be smooth and baby-faced anymore, but he’s still the man I married and I’m glad that we’re still together to celebrate all these milestones.
To celebrate I baked him a requested carrot cake. He’s always complained I don’t do any fancy cakes for his birthday so I got some inspiration from the Recipe Girl cheesecake cakes and whipped up this …
It didn’t turn out quite as pretty as I’d hoped but it sure did taste good. I never have much success with layer cakes standing up the way I’d hoped but I suppose it’s the effort that counts here.
