Dun Dun Dun, He’s 30!

blackballoonsPull down the black veil, hand over the walker and say your farewells….my husband just turned 30 today! He’s crossed over into the dark side…the 30 somethings. And right about now I feel everyone over the age of 30 reaching through the computer screen to smack me upside the head for being such a “whipper snapper” as my dad would call me.

Truth be told, my husband doesn’t care too much about turning 30. He’s already lost half of his hair and what’s left of it started turning gray years ago.

It’s me that feels the shock of this occasion. One minute we’re embracing life and starting our family, then next my husband is hitting the hump in life that divides youth and wisdom straight down the middle….and he’s dragging me along with him! Remember the day I found 2 gray hairs on my head? That was the moment I felt my youthful 20′s slipping away from me and now here my husband is turning 30.

But let’s get back on point, this isn’t about my irrational fear of aging but the celebration of another year of life of my husband. In 30 years, he’s accomplished so much to be proud of. First off, he married me…who wouldn’t be proud of that? haha! It takes a strong man to put up with a woman like me so I have to give him his props. He’s helped create 3 beautiful children. While raising a family he has supported us financially, emotionally and physically (he takes the trash out, sometimes).

At 21, he battled his life long struggle with obesity to work his way through the St. Louis Police Academy and fulfill his life long dream of becoming a police officer and still is today. Moving through the ranks and to a new department, he’s likely one of the youngest Police Captains in the country as well.

More than anything else, I’m so proud that I’m here, as his wife, to celebrate this milestone by his side! Happy Birthday Jon, I love you!

Send congratulations to Jon. I won’t try to smack you through my computer screen because even though you teased, that was full of mushy, gushy love for your husband. My 30′s were pretty good and my 40′s are turning out even better.

  2. Yes, I was about ready to leave you a nasty comment about being over 30! I’m turning 32 next Monday! LOL

  12. What a sweet post! I’m 26 now… hitting 26 was kind of a shock for me, LOL. Because the next big birthday will be 30 and I’ll hit it before my husband! Dang it. lol Only 6 months older, though. My comfort is that at least he’ll catch up soon..

    • Cat says:

I wonder what it is about 26…I felt the same way, shocked. Like I had crossed this invisible line of early 20′s to late 20′s and it just kinda bummed me out.

  16. Sinclair says:

Awww, a babe in the woods. I remember 30. I loved 30. My husband had a hard time with 30. We are only 10 days apart, so reach all milestones at the same time. We are now just a stone’s throw from 40. I’m okay with that, but I’m really missing 30 these days! Already the gray hairs are creeping in, the mild aches and pains here and there (really?!!), and the deepening lines around the eyes…ugh!

Tell him to enjoy his youth and some of the best days of life. Police Captain, even! That is quite an accomplishment. Happy 30, and I hope you have many more Happy Birthdays.

  17. malia says:

  21. Sharla says:

  22. Stefanie says:

  23. Amanda says:

    Happy Birthday to Jon!

I’ll be 30 in a month now, and it’s not really phasing me. My hair’s been turning gray since 8th grade, and my husband is almost 40 LOL! It helps being the younger spouse. I had a friend who was traumatized by turning 25. I can’t wait until she turns 30.

  24. Well, Happy Birthday to your Hubby!! But…..we seriously need to talk about turning 30 being the hump and the dark side! What the crap does that me? I am on the other side of the dark. I would have to say I loved my thirties. I would love to have them back also. Turning 40 IS the dark side, life is falling apart as I go through my 40th year. My mind is going, my nerves are going, my patiences are leaving the building, heck I would love to leave the building sometimes. Oh to be 30 again! ah……………………….
