Decorating the Pool Area for Summer Celebrations

A few weeks ago the weather started to really heat up. In Illinois summer’s can be hot or incredibly hot and we’re always looking for ways to cool off and keep the kids entertained. It was then we decided it was time for a real backyard pool. After shopping around we ultimately ended up at Sears to buy this 16 x 48 Intex above ground pool that has turned out to be one of the best purchases we’ve ever made. It’s the perfect size for our family of five and the kids could spend hours in there splashing around. Unfortunately, it’s also kind of an eye sore.

Since summer is full of holidays and birthday parties we decided we really needed to spruce up the pool area with some decorations and lighting. We weren’t really sure what to do with the pool space until we checked out the Sears Outdoor Catalog online. Inside the catalog we found everything from patio sets to grills and even some really cute ground lighting ideas. I knew right away the Solar Glass Orbs would be perfect placed around the edge of the pool.

With a few of the catalog pages printed in hand we took the family to Sears to see exactly what was available. After a bit of browsing we eventually stumbled into a little corner of lighting products where I found the glass orbs. At $14.99 each they were a great price. I usually like to browse multiple stores before buying but since I’m a Shop Your Way Rewards member I’m always tempted to visit Sears first. I love getting points on my card that can be used as cash off a later purchase. In fact, we saved $45 off a weed wacker last month when I cashed in my rewards points.

After picking out a few of the orbs and some tiki torches I got everything set up in the backyard. We placed the torches and orbs around the edge of the pool making it perfect for night swimming. They really light up the area.

The best part …. the glass orbs are solar powered and they change colors. Each one slowly fades between several pretty colors including this red.

Even when not swimming the lighting makes the pool area look pretty when we’re all gathered in the backyard. For more decorating ideas be sure to check out my #SummerwithSears Photo Album on Google+.

  1. Looks like your family will have some evening fun ahead this Summer! Love the colors from the lights. Great job with your shop.

  2. I need decor around our pool. It has been an abandoned area of our home since indoor remodeling. Love those orbs!

  3. I love the lights around your pool-what a fun look!

  4. That is really pretty! (I love nighttime swimming!) Could make for a very romantic evening. *wink*

    • LOL most definitely. It’s nice to be in the pool after the kids have gone to bed and not be splashed in the face.

  5. My sears sucks. It has none of the pretty outdoor stuff like in your post. Ugh.

    • Ugh, that must be disappointing. You’d think they all carry the same products. Can you order online?

    • Nevermind I found it. On my own. Sales associate not helpful!

      • LOL was it hidden in a corner? That’s where I found these .. they were tucked away behind the giant pool display.

        • No it wasn’t that hidden. It was in a regular aisle. I just didn’t see it. And I asked where the solar lights and pretty things for the yard was and she just directed me to the plain jane solar lights. LOL they aren’t pretty!

  6. That sure did change your pool area. I love the lights! I’m sure you’ll have all kinds of fun out there this Summer. You think Illinois is hot in the Summer, come visit Houston! :)
