I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for American Heritage Chocolate. I received product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
Being born in the 1980′s has allowed me to grow up in a time where I have access to almost any cooking and baking ingredient I could possibly imagine. Take chocolate for example, go to any store and you’ll see shelves dedicated to different shapes, textures and flavors of chocolate. Recipe possibilities are endless with so many different chocolates available to me. However, there was a time when that wasn’t the case. Chocolate has a rich history which is more interesting than you might think – from the first domesticated cocoa tree in 1500 BCE to the distribution of American Heritage Chocolate in 2006.
Unlike today, ingredients were limited in the 1600 and 1700′s, a time period that is encompassed in the American Heritage Chocolate products. Their chocolate is very different that any other I’ve experienced with a unique blend of spices including: cinnamon, nutmeg, chili pepper, orange, anise and vanilla.
Given the complex flavor the of American Heritage Chocolate, I created a recipe allows the unique flavor to shine while giving it a modern sweetness that I personally love in any chocolate dessert. I used the American Heritage Chocolate Drink Mix much like a cocoa powder to give this chocolate cookie dough dip a rich chocolate flavor. Blended with cream cheese, sweeteners and an extra dash of vanilla, this recipe makes the perfect dessert dip for fruit, cookies and graham crackers.
To make this recipe you’ll want to get your hands on some American Heritage Chocolate. While it’s not available at grocery stores, you can find it sold in Museums and living history sites as well as fine gift shops across North America or purchase it online.
