When I was first offered a special test called a NT Scan (Nuchal Translucency Screening) my first thought was "no way!". I've always opted out of genetic defect testing. Growing up around many people with Downs I've come to love them with all of my heart. I even worked at a school with them before. Knowing what I do about the defect, I could never abort my own child for being blessed in this special way. Now I'm not saying the physical and mental … [Read more...]
Pink or Blue ?
That question has been weighing on my mind heavily lately. I've been so determined to remain on Team Green (baby forum talk for surprise delivery) for this one that it's making me want to find out even more! I've never been one for patience although it is starting to come with age (shut up mother!). Quite a few of my online pregnant friends have been toying with a test called Intelligender. Supposedly it has a lab success rate of 90% and a real … [Read more...]
On the Hunt…for Crib Bedding
There's nothing I enjoy more than searching out the cutest crib bedding a room design for my babies -- other than pinching their little cheeks of course. Obviously I don't know the gender of this little one and hope not too until he/she is born, but who knows I may not be able to take the suspense. Regardless, the fun part begins with the window shopping. Now when we went to decorate our daughter's room, I knew right away --- pink, pink, pink! I … [Read more...]
The Name Game
Naming a child under most circumstances can be one of the most difficult choices you have to make during pregnancy. For us, it's always been pretty easy. We find out the gender, go through our short list of favorites and say...yep, that's the one. End of story. Well....not this time. Since this will be our surprise baby we are forced to pick two names, one for a girl, and one for a boy. While the suspense of it all is taxing, I promised myself if … [Read more...]
Thumpity, Thump, Thump, Thump
I've been desperately awaiting the arrival of the fetal doppler I rented from BabyBeat.com and today....it finally arrived! I HIGHLY recommend this for any mom that gets nervous in the first trimester. Four weeks can be a long wait for the next OB appointment.I rented the same model, which is used in doctor's offices, that I did when I was pregnant with Kaydence. $50 is a small price to pay for the reassurance it offers. After taking the kids … [Read more...]
Nausea, Nausea..and more Nausea!
Please someone make it stop! I'm feeling so sick all day every day now and it stinks! In some absurd way I think my unborn child hates me. LOL I started out with a tad of nausea during week 6, it went away for week 7, and came back with a vengeance for week 9. I've been drinking lots of tea with fresh ginger root which helps in the mornings, unfortunately it's the afternoon and evenings that are killer. I don't even want to eat because when I … [Read more...]
The Perfect Appointment
Normally, I dread any doctor visit. I don't necessarily dislike doctors, I just hate the cold, impersonal feeling of being in an office, not to mention the crappy wait times. What other business can get away with making it's customers wait ridiculous minutes, sometimes up to an hour of a scheduled appointment and still get repeat customers? For instance, the service at the Saturn dealership is beyond awful, I've waited several time on hold on the … [Read more...]
Breastfeeding while Pregnant

One of the first questions that came to mind after I got my positive pregnancy test was, Can I still breastfeed? What about after the baby is born, can I breastfeed them both? These two questions started eating at me. And thankfully, now I can answer them both. Yes and yes. My lovely breastfeeding support group at Two Week Wait helped guide me to the truth. While many doctors will try to shy you away from doing so, there's nothing wrong with … [Read more...]
Pregnancy Dreams

Lately I've been having quite vivid pregnancy dreams. I was actually having them about a week before I knew I was even pregnant. The subject of all these dreams.....twins. Yikes. Now I have no family history of twins, or even the slightest inkling, aside from the dreams, that I would even have them. But the shear thought of it makes my heart race. I know there's a lot of parents out there that dream of the day they have twins, but I know, as a … [Read more...]
