After School Snacking Made Easy with Hot Pockets

I’ll admit, I’m quite the lazy parent when it comes to after school snacking. By the time the kids get off the bus in the afternoon, I’m already pretty tired from a day of playing with my toddler, house cleaning and whatever errands I had to squeeze in. I know that the kids will come home from school hungry, it’s a given after a day of working and playing hard. I like to keep a lot of snacks around the house that the kids can grab and go whether it’s to the living room for some relax time with cartoons or back to the bedroom for homework.

My son is particularly picking when it comes to snacks and even just food in general. One thing he never argues with me about is Hot Pockets. They come in just about any flavor variety you can imagine and are individually packaged, making them the perfect snack.

During a recent shopping trip to Walmart, I not only discovered they carried his favorite Pizzeria style Hot Pockets but some new limited edition varieties as well. A chili cheese dog Hot Pocket was tempting but not something I could convince my son to eat.

Instead of rocking the boat, I picked up his favorite … Hot Pockets Pizzeria Pepperoni Pizza. I also grabbed Four Cheese Pizza for my daughter, the soft baked subs variety for myself (hey, moms need a snack too) and just a regular ham & cheese Hot Pockets for my youngest daughter. She happens to be just like me when it comes to flavors.

They’re also the perfect snack because of their size. Each box comes with two individually wrapped Hot Pockets that will give the kids the tummy filler they need before dinner without spoiling their appetite when dinner hits the table a few hours later.

The downside to refilling my cart with after school snacks each week is I also tend to fill up my cart with things I hadn’t planned on getting … like all the supplies for a bathroom makeover.

Shopping habits aside, the Hot Pockets are a perfect little addition to our usual snacking routine of cheese sticks, crackers, fresh fruit and yogurt. Although it wouldn’t hurt if I found some more snack ideas for the kids before they get bored with them.

And there’s the fact that I get zero complaints from my son. He gets a snack he can make himself and I get 20 minutes of bubble bath time before starting dinner.
