13 Things I Want to do in 2013

13 things to do in 2013

  1. Take a trip with my husband. Not just a date but like 2 nights minimum alone with my husband and no children, stresses, work or worries.
  2. Print my digital prints. I’ve lost so many years of photos from computer crashes, it’s time to get smart and get hard copies.
  3. Get debt free. Aside from my dental work debt, I need to pay off one debt account per month and close it. No credit = no burdens.
  4. Unplug. Too much of my life is online and that’s just not living. I want to unplug from the computer, cell phone, iPad, tv, all of it, one day a week.
  5. Visit a new city. We often take day trips to Chicago and St. Louis which are loads of fun but this year I want to visit at least one new city and just discover it with no schedule.
  6. Have a picnic. We don’t do them often enough but a picnic by the Buckingham Fountain in Chicago would be fun.
  7. Buy my husband a gift. For no reason at all or maybe just to remind him that I love him.
  8. Wear a dress. I haven’t worn one since my wedding.
  9. Hide the baby stuff. I’m turning 30 this year, hubs got the big V, both things I’ve told myself would end my child bearing years. It’s time to put all that stuff behind me and box up every baby thing that still exists in this house.
  10. Start saving for a car. I don’t need a car but I really do miss having my own vehicle.
  11. Let my husband mow the grass. Sounds silly doesn’t it? But really, it’s the one household chore he enjoys and I tend to take it over just because I like to do everything myself. So I’m going to let go and just let him do it.
  12. Learn something new. In 2012 I learned how to knit, it was challenging and fun. I want to find something else crafty to learn.
  13. Ditch the negative. I can be a very glass half empty kind of person. I want to rid the negativity from my mind and my life. Even if that means leaving behind negative people in my life to surround myself with happiness.

  1. The one that really stood out to me is the debt-free one because when I did that, I can’t even tell you how much it changed my life. It was the absolute hardest thing I’ve ever done because it made daily life a living hell for about six months until I saw the debt decreasing enough to make a difference, but I’m still debt-free and it’s been six years and running! You can do it!

    • You are so right. I started off by paying off 2 credit cards this week and it felt GREAT! Now I just need to call, close the accounts and celebrate by cutting up the cards.

  2. Great list. I think we share a lot of similar goals. I feel like #4 really hits home for me. Though I think I might get a little twitchy if I did it for an entire day.

    • LOL That will probably be the hardest for me. I love checking my email so I better make it a Sunday thing when email is slow. I’ll start next week. ;)

  3. This is an absolutely fabulous list Cat! Seriously, I think instead of resolutions, more people should make THESE kinds of lists; all of your to-do’s are completely attainable and not unrealistic, so that’s a huge step forward in and of itself :)

    Maybe I’ll make my own 13 list inspired by yours!

  4. Such a great list, there are a few I want to do as well! I’ve never taken a trip with Adam. Well, not since we had kids. We should do that!

    Great list. I have many of the same goals for 2013. I think I would get twitchy too not going online all day. I am a compulsive email checker LOL I would love to take a weekend trip with my husband as well. I have always wanted to go to NY but still haven’t gotten there even though I’m in Philly and not too far. Just always so busy!

  6. Yes!! I love all of these, ESPECIALLY ditching the negative. Do you have any ideas of what you want to learn new this year? I’m going to learn how to play softball and actually join a team with my sister. Wish me luck!

  8. I love that you want to learn a new skill! I hadn’t considered that as part of my 2013 goals, though to do some of what I want to do does involve learning a new skill. Very cool!

    It can be really hard to ditch the negativity, and so worth it, too. My dh has been struggling with envy, another tough habit to change. All I can tell both of you is that it is so worth the journey to become a more positive person.

  10. I’m on the no-debt quest too…steadily working towards that finish line (it’s going to take awhile though w/the student loans about to come due). Good luck w/all of your goals!

  12. Terrific list, I know you can do them all… you have already started making progress toward them from what I’ve read on your FB feed.
    I cannot believe you haven’t worn a dress since your wedding. That one shocked me, your girls love to wear dresses, where do they get that from?
    Besides our house and a bill for an insulation package all over the house, we are debt free – no credit cards, no car payments, etc. It is a great feeling. It is always great after Christmas to know that we aren’t going to have any bills to pay in January for gifts we bought each other or our kids & grandkids. Good luck with that part, it will make you feel fabulous.

    • LOL I grew up a Tom Boy … never a lick of makeup, dresses or anything girl until my late teens and even then it didn’t last long.

  13. I like your list! All very doable! You know I always wear jeans! I was thinking of making a challenge to myself to wear skirts ONLY atleast 5 days a week for a month straight. I find that if I make it a challenge and post about it, then I have to follow through. lol!
